FAQ

Questions people often ask me

Practical information about working together. If your question is not here, you are very welcome to ask me during the free call.

What happens in the first session?

The first session is a chance for us to meet and talk through what has brought you to therapy. I will ask about your background, current concerns and what you would like to gain from our work together, and you will have space to ask any questions. There is no pressure to share more than feels comfortable. The aim is to begin building trust and to agree on how we might work together.

How do I get started?

The first step is to book a free 15-minute call online, and you will receive a confirmation email with your video link. If we both feel it is a good fit, we arrange your first session together during the call, and after that we book each next session at the end of the one before.

How many sessions will I need?

This varies from person to person and depends on what you are bringing to therapy. Some clients find a handful of sessions helpful for a specific issue, while others prefer longer-term work to explore deeper patterns. We will review progress together regularly so the work stays aligned with your needs and goals.

Are sessions confidential?

Yes. Everything you share is treated as confidential and I practise in line with the ethical standards of the HCPC (Health and Care Professions Council). The only exceptions are the legal limits of confidentiality, for example if there is a serious risk of harm to you or someone else, or where disclosure is required by law. I will always aim to discuss any concerns with you first wherever possible.

Do you offer online and in-person sessions?

My sessions are held online by secure video, so you can join from wherever you are, in the UK, Portugal or further afield. I am in London a few times a year, and we can arrange to meet in person during those visits.

What is your cancellation policy?

I ask for at least 48 hours' notice if you need to cancel or reschedule a session. Cancellations made with less than 48 hours' notice, and missed sessions, are charged at the full session fee. This policy allows me to offer the time to another client where possible.

What languages do you offer therapy in?

I offer therapy in English and Russian. Being able to explore difficult feelings in your native language can make a real difference. If Russian is your first language, you're welcome to read more on my Russian-language page.

Can I use private health insurance?

Yes. I am a recognised provider with Aviva, Bupa, Vitality and WPA. If you plan to use private health insurance, please check with your provider in advance to confirm your cover and obtain any pre-authorisation you may need, and share your policy and authorisation details with me before your first session. If you are insured with another provider, get in touch and I'll be happy to advise.

How much does therapy cost?

The introductory call is free. The first full session (assessment) is £120 and ongoing sessions are £120, each lasting 50 minutes. If you are using private health insurance, your insurer may cover some or all of the cost.

Is this an emergency service?

No. This practice offers planned, appointment-based therapy and cannot provide urgent support between sessions. If you are in crisis, please call 999 or go to A&E in the UK, call the Samaritans on 116 123, or in Portugal call 112 or SNS 24 on 808 24 24 24.
